Our comprehensive negotiation training fine-tunes real time skills and tactics while expanding your capacity to set processes up for success. We teach you the skills and then provide interactive opportunities for you to practice them, thereby engraining them into your practice as a negotiator.

Day 1

The Context
Negotiation is a choice amongst alternatives. The choice needs to be made explicitly based on an informed assessment. Once you make this choice, the challenge is negotiating the best agreement possible by applying essential skills within processes that are designed for success.

Negotiating Fundamentals
We begin by ensuring we are working with a common language and understanding regarding the fundamental principles, skills, and processes of modern negotiation, and the best ways for people to deal with their differences. This sets the stage for development of the skills you need to engage effectively in real time while designing and adapting processes that are conducive to success.

Day 2

9AM-11:45AM PST

Effective Communications
Do you know how to listen? Can you manage your internal dialogue while someone says things that you fundamentally disagree with? Can you ask the right question at the right time in order to unlock new possibilities for mutual gain and sustainable agreements? The answer will be yes when we have completed this session and you will take home skills to continue practicing for the rest of your life.

Navigating Emotions
How do you manage the emotional content of negotiations? Or are you managed by it? How would you create an emotional environment that your adversaries trust that is also conducive to agreement. In this session you will learn how to use a practical framework for influencing emotions and creating an emotional environment conducive to agreement.

Day 3

9AM-11:45AM PST

Real Time Tactics
When do you push to seal the deal and when do you back off or take a break or move on to another topic or issue? How do you say no and how do you leverage it? How do you respond to no and how do you turn it into yes? These are real time tactics that complement your effective communication skills and your capacity to manage the emotional environment.

Integration and Synthesis
What are the hallmarks of a great negotiator? The characteristics of a strategic response to an emerging conflict? How do you bring real time and process design skills together and make them work for you in real life? This is about setting yourself up to continue to learn from the present and the past and to hone your skills continuously. And finally, to recognize that there are many lessons to be learned across cultures and over the millennia.

12:30PM-1:45PM PST

Designing Effective Processes
Do you know how to listen? Can you manage your internal dialogue while someone says things that you fundamentally disagree with? Caribou Conservation

Pacific Resolutions was asked to lead the negotiation with West Moberly & Saulteau First Nations and Canada on behalf of British Columbia in an effort to save the Central Mountain Caribou. Four months later a deal was reached that involved the creation of the largest continuous protected area in the province. The caribou may be able to live on as part of our shared ecosystem as a result of this agreement.
